April 14th Debbie - Marais District

April 14th Debbie - Marais District

Starting near Pont Marie metro station, we will walk along the Seine to reach the moving Mémorial de la Shoah, a place of remembrance dedicated to the history of the Holocaust in France. The memorial is located in the south side of the Marais district as the area was heavily stricken during the dark times of occupation.

The tour blends larger history and more specific aspects of the French Collaboration during WW2 and its impact on what is known as the Jewish quarter.

We will thus enjoy the medieval elegance of the Hôtel de Sens, the oldest surviving townhouses in the city, walk past the remains of the Philippe Auguste city wall, through old courtyards and on to the hidden Hôtel de Sully, with a discreet passage leading to the Place des Vosges, a masterpiece of classical architecture.

Strolling along the lively Rue des Francs-Bourgeois, we will then head to the Pletzl, the historic Jewish quarter, where culture, memory, and gastronomy come together.

If you wish so, we can grab a traditional pastry and conclude our tour in the hidden garden of Hotel de Soubise...
